I am returning from a photoshoot in Oklahoma City. The photoshoot is of Mary Berry, Real Estate Owned broker with Century 21. She is being recognized by LORE for her amazing volume of transactions in 2008.
Though this post is not about Mary Berry as much as it is about Phil Mumford, a photographer I have worked with for about eight years now.
Mary Berry asked me over lunch how long I had been working with Phil Mumford. In answering the question, I also reflected on why a creative director like me continues to give preferred assignments to a particular photographer.
There are many qualities I look for in hiring a photographer. The most important is, obviously, artistic merit. But other factors have a lot to do with my choice in continuing to give them the best assignments. Reliability, flexibility, good manners, positive attitude are all valuable qualities. Phil Mumford has all of these. I feel that my budget is well-spent with this photographer.
Phil first introduced himself to me in 2000 when I was the art director of ColoradoBiz magazine in Denver. He’d recently come to the States from South Africa, where he’d had a successul studio.
I hired many photographers in my tenure at ColoradoBiz, but a select few I called again when I moved on to greener pastures. I’ll write about some of those later.
