I’ve been working for The Colorado Health Foundation for a year and a half now, publishing a quarterly journal titled Health Elevations. It’s an exciting project, with challenges and creative puzzles I don’t face in other projects.

Aside from functioning as creative director, I am also a co-publisher. This basically means that I work with the printer and pay the print bill. The publication has no advertising, so the title of publisher is quite simple.

The client’s lofty expectations and generous budget also challenge me to reach further and higher for excellence and creative concepts. Though it can seem like a headache at times, the lasting benefit is career and personal growth.

This latest cover was the result of a brainstorming session in their conference room, affectionately titled the “Sunrise Room,” where we discussed how to show the disparity between traditional health care and behavioral health. The concept was really born of the brilliant mind of Caren Henderson, Communications Director, and the rest of the team helped form it to what you see here. Additionally, we had the talents of Denver photographer John Johnston, who rallied several models from a diverse background to consider.

My work with The Colorado Health Foundation continues to be exciting and challenging. The covers of future volumes should tell a compelling story.

I also appreciate the team who makes it all come together: Linda Droeger, Sandy Graham, Carol Roland, Chris Power Bain, Caren Henderson, Andrew Sternard, James Gance, several great photographers and writers.
