This week I continue production of EnergyBiz March/April 2009. It has been challenging, because we have a tight schedule, but I am about four days behind where I need to be, and I am going to Denver on Thursday and Friday of this week.
Nevertheless, I will be able to finish the project on time. If I have learned anything from video games, it is that there is always a way to reach your goal.
I am also excited about doing another cover illustration. I consider my work for these projects as high quality, but for illustration, I usually offer a substantial discount (usually about 50%), which also helps me keep within budget. I tell some of my clients that when I do it, it is like the house brand at Safeway. Still editorial illustration, still quality, but not from a name-brand illustrator.
The visit to Denver will be back-to-back meetings. The one frustration I have about living in Olympia is that when I need to travel for business, in order to get any remains of a productive day at my destination, I usually have to leave my house at 2am. If I have business in New York City or anywhere else on the East Coast, I usually have to take a red-eye flight.
In Denver I am meeting with my team members at Energy Central, and having an informal celebration for the completion of the first issue of Intelligent Utility. Then I have meetings with another important client, The Colorado Health Foundation. When that is done, I am off to dinner with my long-time business partner Myrna James. We have spent the past four months ramping up for the launch of our Überzeckretprojekt, which I will reveal the official name of shortly. I return to Olympia early Friday morning, hopefully with enough time in the day, and not too much travel fatigue, to complete a few more production tasks for EnergyBiz.
