Marketing a bilingual film

My Stunt Double film poster for August 8, 2009 Tokyo screening

My Stunt Double film poster for August 8, 2009 Tokyo screening

The film I directed last summer in Tokyo is finally going to be finished and given a public screening.

I had created an original image for the marketing of the same scene last summer when we developed the script. When we shot the scene, a key slapstick scene in which the secondary actor and the namesake runs himself over with a toy truck, I had the actor pose for a still image to use as reference for the poster.

My Stunt Double was shot in english, written by a Japanese national who was educated in film in the US. There are a few scenes where the actors shift into Japanese, but the film is primarily in english.

For the screening we are going to add Japanese subtitles.

The poster required two versions, then, to straddle the two cultures it appeals to.

The entire film was shot in Tokyo over three days. It is a mockumentary, and shot in a very rough and amateur style. It has about the same length and production quality as an episode of “The Office.”

My hope is that it is genuinely funny, as we put effort into the laugh meter.

I plan to post it on a website after the public screening in Tokyo on August 8.
